to our wonderful politicians

Dear Representatives of the Texas House,
First of all, I'd like to thank you. You have convinced me to NEVER endeavour at being a Representative. I'd also like to thank you all for being so mature and having so much integrity. It's good to know that Texas is in such good hands. But I'd like to ask you a question. How much are you paid to cheat and lie in order to get your way? Did you go through school to learn this kind of ridiculous hypocrisy or did it just come naturally to you? It's slightly ludicrous to me that all of you have, I think, worked extremely hard to get to this level. What I'm wondering about is that it seems you've gone through a lot to be demoted back to kindergarten. It's just a bigger playground, with fancier words and much more name-calling.

Maybe next time you vote for something, you'll try to vote for yourself, and not your whole row. Thanks again for being a fantastic example of leadership!

Yours,
Gabrielle Olivas

Nice post. You know what thought occurred to me as you were comparing the Texas House to a kindergarten? What if politicians were paid the same way schools are. We get a certain amount of money per day a student actually shows up (and spends the whole day at school). So that whenever anyone is sick the school makes less money and has a harder time paying it's bills, employees, etc.

So what if politicians were paid the same way? What if every day they were absent from the house, every debate they dodged, every vote they missed (and let someone else steal their vote!!! Grrr...), their paycheck got smaller. OR, what if there was a big electronic billboard outside the House that showed the attendance, in big bright letters, of each of our elected legislators? If I knew that the person I voted into office was busy doing something OTHER than discussing the issues and voting on them I would make real sure not to reelect.

What a tirade you've inspired out of me ;)

much love,
mr. ross

P.S. you might reconsider your poll? Comparing people - fun though it might seem - has a quick potential to hurt people's feelings. Besides, I am absolutely not the smartest person on that list. All three of my competitors are lightyears ahead of where I was at 14. And what does 'smart' mean anyways?
